Effect of potash and sulphur on yield and quality parameters under different planting methods in onion

Abstract: A field experiment was carried out to examine the effect of potash and sulphur on yield and quality parameters under different planting methods in onion (Allium cepa L.) during Rabi 2014 and 2015. The experiment consists of 8 treatment combinations viz. 2 planting methods (bed and flat), 4 treatments of fertilizer viz. S 1 -N 100 P 50 K 0 S 0 (control), S 2 -N 100 P 50 K 50 S 0 , S 3 -N 100 P 50 K 0 S 40 , S 4 -N 100 P 50 K 50 S 40 . The experiment was laid in factorial randomized block design and replicated t… Show more

“…Dose of potash @ 60 kg ha -1 showed the maximum number of leaves plant -1 (Table 1) in 1 st year (9.37), 3 rd year (8.63) and in pooled analysis (8.88). Such findings also proved by Kaur et al, in 2017 [9] . Regarding the effect of different levels of sulphur application on number of leaves plant -1 was found non-significant except with sulphur application @ 20 kg ha -1 (9.60) in 1 st year of the experiment.…”

“…Application of the different levels of potash and sulphur influences the onion plant height (Table 1). Dose of potash @ 80 kg ha -1 showed the maximum plant height in 1 st year (75.20 cm) and 2 nd year (61.73 cm) of the experiments and was at par with dose of potash @ 60 kg ha -1 , whereas, in 3 rd year of the experiment dose of potash @ 60 kg ha -1 showed the maximum plant height (67.03 cm) and was at par with dose of potash @ 40 kg ha -1 (Kaur et al, 2017) [9] . While, pooled analysis of potash levels on plant height was found non-significant.…”

“…Potassium is essential for several processes in plant metabolism, including photosynthesis, the movement of photosynthates, the control of plant pores, the activation of plant catalysts, and pest and disease resistance. In addition to enhancing the onion's keeping quality, it also enhances the quality characteristics of various crops, including the onion, such as color, glossiness, and dry matter buildup [10]. The temporal application of potassium during the growth phase of onion plants plays a crucial role in influencing the process of bulb formation.…”
