Effect of Ratio of Surface Area on the Corrosion Rate

Abstract: Aluminum and steel are used to be a construction for a building outdoor panel. Aluminum and steel are connected by bolt and nut. An atmosphere due to a corrosion of the aluminum. The corrosion possibly to cause the hole diameter of bolt and nut to become larger. Thus the bolt and nut can not enough strong to hold the panel. The panel may collapse. The aim of the research is first to answer a question where does the corrosion starts. The second is to know the effect of ratio surface area of steel with aluminum … Show more

“…In this work, we use two different metal specimens; the aluminum sheet and iron sheet. Aluminum is a strong and light weight metal that can be found in everyday life such as food wrapping, furniture, panel [20] etc. More importantly, aluminum is used in most aircraft [21], use for shielding against lightning strike [22], also because its metal feature provides durability against weather (corrosion resistant) [23] and has good thermal conductivity [24].…”

“…Increasing the active surface area and introducing crevices and pits by structuring is expected to increase the corrosion rate [10], reducing the longevity of the component. To not counteract the cell e ciency improvements by reducing the components lifetime, measures must be taken to reduce post-treatment corrosion rates.…”
