Effect of Red Beet and Betaine Modulating Oxidation and Bioactivity of Rainbow Trout

Abstract: The present study compares a control diet to experimental diets, in which 2 red beet (14 and 28%) and 2 betaine levels (0.9 and 1.63%) were incorporated on rainbow trout diets according to a factorial design. The effects of the inclusion of different red beet and betaine concentrations on fatty acid profile (FA), lipid peroxidation and antioxidant activity on rainbow trout fillets were investigated. Although no significant differences were observed with the control group, results indicated that red beet and be… Show more

“…Similar to the protein nanoparticles, protein nanofibers are widely used in nutrition and drug delivery systems because of their good biocompatibility, high emulsifying ability, and strong heat resistance [ 90 ]. Betaine has the activities of regulating the osmotic pressure in the body, increasing the activity of cellular Na/K-ATPase, promoting fat metabolism, and inhibiting fatty liver [ 91 ]. However, the low stability of betaines to thermal degradation limits their application in food processing.…”

“…Luo et al (2011) stated that Nile tilapia reached the best growth with 0.5% of betaine supplementation. Dietary supplementation with 1.69% of betaine and 28% of beetroot in feed decreased the total fatty acids in a rainbow trout muscle, but increased the PUFA-DHA content (Pinedo-Gil et al, 2019). Betaine supplementation along with the other attractants resulted in better feed efficiency and growth because of the higher nutrition absorption and adequate nutrition profiles (Jiang et al, 2019).…”
