Effect of Reflux Hole on the Transient Flow Characteristics of the Self-Priming Sewage Centrifugal Pump

Abstract: The reflux hole has a large effect on the performance of self-priming centrifugal pumps. In order to study the effects of the reflux hole on the performance and transient flow characteristics of the self-priming centrifugal pump, four different areas of the reflux hole inside an external mixed self-priming pump were proposed. The 3D transient flow was numerically simulated under different operating conditions for the investigated pump. The differential pressure, reflux quantity and transient flow characteristi… Show more

“…Six impellers with different inlet blade angles were designed for numerical simulation and research was conducted, obtaining the optimal inlet angle of the blades, which provided a theoretical basis for improving the performance of single-blade centrifugal pumps. Zhou et al [5] suggested that the reflux holes of self-priming centrifugal pumps have a significant impact on pump performance. To study the specific influencing mechanism, four groups of reflux holes with different areas were arranged for transient numerical simulation.…”

“…Wang et al [18] numerically simulated the non-constant flow field inside a cyclone self-priming pump using a large vortex simulation method and found that the maximum pressure pulsation value inside the vortex occurs in the volute channel inside the tongue area of the guide wall, which is biased towards the direction of rotation of the impeller. Zhou et al [19] studied external hybrid self-priming pumps with different reflux hole areas and analyzed the effect of reflux hole area on their pressure pulsation characteristics. The results showed that the intensity of pressure fluctuations at the monitoring points near the reflux holes is generally greater than the others and decreases with the decrease in the reflux hole area.…”

“…Mou et al [7] numerically simulated the self-priming pump process under four different return areas and found that the flow in the pump cavity became complex due to the existence of vortices. Zhou et al [8] studied the effect of reflux hole area on the pressure pulsation characteristics and performance of self-priming pumps during normal operation. They pointed out that the vorticity near the outlet of the reflux hole is significant, and the asymmetric flow structure in the cross-section moves periodically with time.…”
