Effect of resin content on the physiochemical and combustion properties of wood fiber insulation board

Abstract: As petrochemical products (including plastics) contribute to the destruction of the natural environment, the use of such products must be reduced. Plastics account for 90% of the insulation materials used in Korea, including extruded polystyrene (EPS), expanded polystyrene (XPS), and urethane foam. Wood-fiber insulation board (WIB) is a promising natural alternative to petrochemical insulation. This study aimed to determine the optimal amount of adhesive resin required for manufacturing WIB. Fire-resistant WIB… Show more

“…Additionally, the MORs of the greater than or equal to 0.20-g/cm 3 target density IFBs with CNFs were higher than the standard value of A-class IFBs of JIS A 5905, even though the size of the specimens was different. In addition, the standard deviation of MOR in this study is similar to the previous study (Park et al 2020), where MOR of IFB with 35 percent resin content was 0.95 6 0.1 MPa, whereas in this study, MOR of IFB for 0.07 g/cm 3 with the 15 percent CNF addition ratio was 1.09 6 0.19 MPa. This suggests that the IFB with CNF could be produced with same quality as IFB with resin added.…”

“…In addition, thermal insulation measures of envelop enclosure can also be taken to improve the comfort of the indoor environment. The roof can be insulated with an extruded polystyrene insulation board [28][29][30][31]. The external wall insulation technology can adopt external and internal insulation technology, and the cold bridge can be subject to certain structural treatment.…”

“…Nevertheless, the preservation and restoration of technological lines for fibreboard production using the "wet" method is reasonable both from an economic and environmental point of view. Requirements of standards regulating the environmental safety of boards and their physical and mechanical properties determining their further use in various industries are becoming more stringent (Gao et al 2011;Mancera et al 2011;Ihnat et al 2017Ihnat et al , 2018Ihnat et al , 2020Song et al 2018;Li et al 2019;Park et al 2020).…”
