Effect of Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Transfer Emulsion Styrene Butadiene Rubber (RAFT ESBR) on the Properties of Carbon Black-Filled Compounds

Abstract: Tread is an important component that directly affects the performance of passenger car radial (PCR) tires. Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is mainly used for tire tread and it includes solution styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) and emulsion styrene-butadiene rubber (ESBR). Although SSBR is mainly used, the manufacturing process for SSBR is more challenging than ESBR, which is environmentally friendly, but has the disadvantage of a broad molecular weight distribution. To overcome this, a reversible addition-fragme… Show more

“…Meanwhile, the peaks in the region of 0.5–3.0 ppm are due to the protons associated with the saturated hydrocarbons section of the backbone chain and include groups such as CH 3 , CH 2 , and CH . The peaks in this spectrum were found to overlap, and this agrees with the NMR SBR spectra of previous studies. , …”

“…25 The peaks in this spectrum were found to overlap, and this agrees with the NMR SBR spectra of previous studies. 26,27 The 1 H NMR spectrum of PtBa-g-SBR was found to be very similar to that of the spectrum of the SBR starting material, with the addition of the singlet at 1.47 ppm (C(CH 3 ) 3 ) from the tert-butyl groups. However, as the 1 H NMR did not confirm if the tert-butyl group was grafted onto the SBR backbone chain or was present as part of a separate polymer, a diffusion-ordered spectroscopy NMR spectrum was also obtained.…”

“…Synthetic rubber is often used as the base rubber for passenger car radial (PCR) tire treads. Therefore, efforts to improving tire performance have focused on adjusting the molecular weight, microstructure of synthetic rubber, and introducing functional groups [ 3 , 4 ]. However, TBR tire treads need to withstand a larger load and longer operation times.…”
