Effect of Rumex nervosus Leaf Powder on the Breast Meat Quality, Carcass Traits, and Performance Indices of Eimeria tenella Oocyst-Infected Broiler Chickens

Abstract: This work aimed to assess the effect of using the RNL on performance indices, carcass trait, and meat quality of broiler chicken infected with Eimeria tenella compared with commercially used anticoccidials salinomycin. Moreover, we compare these selected variables between infected medicated groups and a non-infected unmedicated group (UUT) and an infected unmedicated group (IUT). A total of 150 1-day-old Ross 308 mixed-sex broilers were divided into 6 groups. Birds in groups 1, 2, and 3 were fed basic diets su… Show more

“…As expected, the results of this study showed that slaughter weight, carcass weight, and then dressing or carcass yield were adversely affected by the positive control compared with medicated or NC groups. Our findings support those of [ 59 , 60 ], who were orally challenged with Eimeria-populated oocysts harmed performance indices and carcass yield. Where [ 59 ] observed Rumex nervosus leaves can mitigate E. tenella suffering and improve dressing percentage.…”

“…Our findings support those of [ 59 , 60 ], who were orally challenged with Eimeria-populated oocysts harmed performance indices and carcass yield. Where [ 59 ] observed Rumex nervosus leaves can mitigate E. tenella suffering and improve dressing percentage. In addition, [ 60 ] observed that the dressing percentage was significantly higher in the group receiving a mixture of all 3 herbs ( Aloe barbadensis , Ferulafoetida regal , and Tamarindus indica ) at 2 mL/L mixed with citric acid and lowest in the control group (without medicinal herbs supplementation and challenged with Eimeria-populated oocysts).…”

“…Furthermore, these supplements were found to be associated with the most convenient cooking loss value. Natural herbs or their derivatives, such as Rumex nervosus leaves, used as phytogenic feed additives improved meat quality and some carcass traits in broilers and are believed to be a promising non-traditional feed source in the future ( 5 ).…”
