Effect of S-2304 wire-mesh angle in hemp/flax composite on mechanical and twist drilling surface response analysis

Abstract: Natural fiber-based composite materials have found wide applications in Automotive, Aerospace, and Marine Industries. The current study presents the composite preparation, mechanical characterization, and machining behavior of hybrid composite. The fabricated hybrid composite consists of natural fibers (hemp and flax), resin (epoxy and hardener), and S-2304 wire mesh of different orientations (45° and 90°). The mechanical characterization was performed through tensile, flexural, impact, and hardness with ASTM … Show more

“…Drilling studies on roselle–sisal hybrid composites were performed and optimized using an artificial neural network model [ 26 , 27 ]. Few experimenters investigated initially with peel-up delamination and later with push-down delamination for hemp/flax-fiber-based composites and also discovered that the most important elements to consider throughout the drilling process are feed rate and cutting speed [ 28 ]. In the drilling of sisal polypropylene composites, drill geometry was determined to be the most influential element [ 29 , 30 , 31 ].…”

“…They also discuss the implications of several factors on FML machining, such as abrasive type, abrasive flow rate, standoff distance, and traverse speed 21 . AWJM is also used in the machining of metal matrix composites (MMCs) 22 . Likewise, AWJM is employed for machining fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites (FRPMCs), a form of fibre-metal hybrid composite 23 .…”

“…[ 21 ] However, adherence for both surfaces of the metal with matrix material is a critical problem therefore both the fibers but also metal mesh might have to be chemically surface treated by bifunctional coupling agents, and some time even mechanical treatments. [ 22 ]…”
