Effect of salinomycin on metastasis and invasion of bladder cancer cell line T24

Abstract: Salinomycin can suppress the metastasis and invasion of bladder cancer cells, of which the mechanism is probably associated with the inhibition of EMT of tumor cells.

“…Recently, studies have indicated that SAL inhibits cell migration and invasion in a variety of cancer types in vitro (17), in addition to reducing metastasis in vivo (32,33). In the present study, the invasive ability of canine mammary CSCs was decreased following treatment with SAL in vitro; however, whether SAL has inhibits the metastasis of canine mammary tumor cells requires additional study.…”

“…Furthermore, it suppresses the migration of colorectal, breast, lung and colon cancer cell lines as well the invasion of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and bladder cancer cells in vitro (Kopp et al, 2014;Wu et al, 2014;Qu et al, 2015;Klose et al, 2016). Consistently, in vivo studies proved that salinomycin may reduce metastasis formation in mammary tumor mouse model, bladder tumor rat model and intravenous mouse tumor model (Gupta et al, 2009;Kopp et al, 2014;Qu et al, 2015). Importantly, salinomycin is able to suppress the late stages of autophagy contributing to the ROS generation and mitochondria dysfunction (Klose et al, 2019).…”

“…CSCs are believed to play an important role in metastasis, the deadliest cancer progression. Multiple researchers have shown salinomycin decreases CSC invasiveness and migration (44)(45)(46)(47). This physiologic change is associated with the FAK-ERK1/2 signaling pathway in liver CSCs (44) and the abolition of STAT3 and STAT1 interactions in colorectal CSCs (45).…”
