Effect of Secondary Cold Reduction Rates on Microstructure, Texture and Earing Behavior of Double Reduction Tinplate

Abstract: In order to evaluate the effect of secondary cold reduction rate on the drawing performance of double reduction tinplate and explain the mechanism, a detailed investigation into the microstructural characterization, dissolved carbon atoms, texture characterization by an X-ray powder diffractometer (XRD) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and earing behavior were carried out with different secondary cold reduction rates of 15%, 20% and 25% for double reduction tinplate. The experimental results indica… Show more

“…The intensity function value on the ND orientation line changes little, indicating that it is difficult to produce ear on the rolling direction of 0°/60°. However, the ELC intensity function values at {554} <225> and {332} <113> on the TD orientation line increase and those of LC decrease, indicating that ELC is more likely to produce ear on the rolling direction of 0°/60°, which can balance ear on the rolling direction of 45° and reduce the earing coefficient [ 30 ].…”

“…In order to better evaluate the earing behaviors, the earing extent index (Q) is used to quantitatively describe the relative earing tendency of each texture component. Table 5 shows , Δr, Q and earing direction for main texture components [ 30 , 43 ]. According to Table 6 , texture components such as {111} <110>, {111} <112> and {554} <225> contribute great to and little or minor to Δr.…”

“…At the same time, the larger |Δr| value will produce larger ears. Many researchers focused on the effects of secondary cold reduction rates on the tinplate's microstructure and texture characteristics, but there have been few investigations on the effect of the continuous annealing temperature [3][4][5]. It is worth noting that the quality of the annealed DI plate will have a significant impact on the performance of the finished DI plate after tinning.…”
