Effect of semen washing methods on diminishing the transmission of viral infections in artificial reproductive technology

Abstract: Seminal infections were considered to be an etiologic factor of male infertility. Semen washing is used as an appropriate technique in artificial reproductive technology (ART) for serodiscordant couples when the partner of male is contaminated. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of semen washing methods in reducing the transmission of viral infections in ART. In this narrative review we investigated accessible information from Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, IranMedex, Irandoc, M… Show more

“…In conventional sperm-washing procedures, the HPV infection persisted, but in later studies, heparinase III in sperm washing completely removed HPV DNA from the semen, and the sperm quality was not degraded. 126 To lower the chances of HPV transmission before ART, new, standardized seminal cleaning methods should be introduced. Apart from this, HPV can be transferred to women through sexual activity, and it may lead to a lower ongoing pregnancy rate and spontaneous abortion.…”

“…Before ART, seminal washing for those infected with HPV may be done to reduce seminal infection.
