Effect of Si and Fe on the Recrystallization Response of Al-Mn Alloys with Zr Addition

Abstract: AlMn alloys are often used for the production of automotive heat exchanger ns. During brazing at about 600• C, recrystallization and grain coarsening resulting in the reduction of the strength and possible buckling of the n can occur. In order to obtain a good recrystallization resistance, the alloy should contain a dense and homogeneous distribution of second phase particles. The eect of Si and Fe addition on the recrystallization response of AlMnZr alloys direct-chill cast in the laboratory conditions and tw… Show more

“…Despite of the importance of these materials for technical applications the results concerning the influence of progressive processing methods are relatively scarce. Karlík et al [12] investigated several directchill cast Al-Mn-based alloys with addition of Zr, Fe, and Si. The cold rolling with 89 % reduction (the equivalent strain ε ∼ 2.5) resulted in the Vickers hardness values HV = 80 MPa and HV = 67 MPa in the Al-Mn-Zr-Si-Fe and Al-Mn-Zr alloys, respectively.…”

“…[2,4,[21][22][23]. The effect of the Mn-, Sc-and Zr-content on recrystallization in binary aluminium alloys has now been partially documented [7,17,[24][25][26]. However, an understanding of the complex interactions between concurrent precipitation and recrystallization requires further investigation [15,24,26].…”

However, an understanding of the complex interactions between concurrent precipitation and recrystallization requires further investigation [15,24,26]. The purpose of Sc and Zr added to the Al-Mn-based alloys may be either to stabilize the microstructure of wrought semi-products (extrusions, rolled plates, forgings, etc.)…”
