Effect of silver diammine fluoride application on dentin bonding performance

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of two different concentrations of silver diammine fluoride (SDF) on dentin bonding performance. Human mid-coronal dentin was treated with either distilled water (control), 3.8%SDF or 38%SDF for 3 min. A two-step self-etch adhesive and resin composite were applied according to manufacturer's instructions. After thermocycling (TC) at 0, 5,000 and 10,000 cycles, microtensile bond strength (µTBS) testing and morphological assessment of resin-dentin bonding int… Show more

“…On the other hand, the RC group showed smaller amounts of accumulated crystals than the SDF group. It was previously reported that deposition of Ag on the dentin surface treated with 38% SDF was higher than that with 3.8% SDF, suggesting an increase in acid resistance with more silver precipitates present 38) . The SDF/KI group demonstrated a completely different morphology from the SDF group.…”

“…Removal of the surface layer in SDF group might be done for esthetic reasons. Also, the silver-rich surface layer may hinder the adhesion of restorative material to dentin 42) . One of the limitations in this study was that provisional material was not used during the twovisit protocol.…”

“…Both studies found that administration of SDF had no adverse effect on the adhesion strength of total etch. 30,31 In 2020 there are several studies conducted by Ko Ko et al, 2020;Sakr, 2020;Yang et al, 2020. 8,32,33 In a study conducted by Yang et al, 2020, it was found that SDF administration had a significant effect on the bond strength of the total etch.…”
