Effect of single-dose administration of recombinant interferon-alpha2b on gastric myoelectrical activity in patients with chronic hepatitis C

Abstract: Acute administration of interferon does not involve any deterioration of GMA that could be linked to the previously reported upper abdominal symptoms in patients undergoing treatment with this drug.

“…Three Ag/AgCl electrodes suitable for a prolonged recording of bioelectrical signals (type EK-S 55P manufactured by Sorimex, Poland) [14] were placed on the abdomen: the first active (A1) electrode was fixed in the midline, half way between the xiphoid process and navel, the second active (A2) electrode was fixed at a point lying 5 cm distant to A1 on a line leading up at a 45°angle towards the left costal margin, whereas the reference electrode (R) was positioned on the right side of the abdomen below the right costal margin at its intersection with the right anterior axillary line [16]. The preparatory procedure involved shaving of the skin if necessary, then a careful abrasion until pink with the use of Every paste (Sorimex, Poland/Italy).…”

“…Analysis of GMA recordings [14,17] A sampling frequency of 4 Hz was used while registering and digitizing the GMA. The data were transferred from the recording device to a personal computer and analyzed with the use of a dedicated software (Multigram v. 6.40, Synectics Medical AB, Sweden).…”

“…For electrogastrography recording three Red Dot class Ag/ AgCl electrodes (type 2222, 3M Canada, London, Ontario, Canada) (Kasicka-Jonderko et al, 2006a) were placed on the abdomen: the first active (A1) electrode was fixed in the midline, half way between the xyphoid process and umbiculus, the second active (A2) electrode was fixed at point lying 5 cm distant to A1 on a line leading up at a 45 degree angle towards the left costal margin, whereas the reference electrode (R) was positioned on the right side of the abdomen below the right costal margin at its intersection with the right anterior axillary line; the electrodes were connected to a MicroDigitrapper 4 Mbyte Flash Series device (Synectics, Skovlunde, Denmark) (Jonderko et al, 2004;Jonderko et al, 2005a). In addition seven Ag/AgCl electrodes (type R-LLL-510, Bio Lead-Lok, Józefów, Poland) were fixed to the thorax for the purpose of a continuous electrocardiographic recording with an AsPEKT 702 recorder (Aspel, Zabierzów, Poland).…”

“…The electrical resistance between every active electrode and either the reference electrode (pairs: A1-R, A2-R, A3-R, A4-R) or the grounding electrode (pairs: A1-G, A2-G, A3-G, A4-G) electrode was checked with the use of a digital ohmmeter (type M3850D, Metex, Seoul, Korea) ( Fig. 1), and in case it exceeded 5 KΩ, the respective electrodes were removed and the whole preparatory procedure was started from the beginning (Jonderko et al, 2004;Jonderko et al, 2005b). The measurement of the electrical resistance between the electrode pairs specified was taken again at the end of the registration session.…”
