Effect of single-dose ibuprofen on follicular fluid levels of interleukins in poor responders undergoingin vitrofertilization

Abstract: Premature follicular rupture during in vitro fertilization (IVF) is a well-known culprit for cycle cancellation. We sought to evaluate whether a single oral dose of ibuprofen will have an effect on the follicular fluid (FF) levels of inflammatory markers involved in ovulation. This is a prospective within-subjects study following nine patients undergoing IVF. Every patient underwent a first cycle of minimal stimulation IVF followed by a second cycle using the same stimulation protocol, except one oral dose of … Show more

“…[ 44 50 ]IL-6 is a multifunctional cytokine, and the role of IL-6 in human oocyte maturation and subsequent embryo development is still uncertain. Some studies have suggested that high levels of IL-6 in follicular fluid are beneficial for oocyte maturation [ 42 , 52 ].…”

“…Some studies have suggested that high levels of IL-6 in follicular fluid are beneficial for oocyte maturation [ 42 , 52 ]. However, other studies have drawn opposite conclusions: higher levels of IL-6 during in vitro fertilization cycles are associated with poorer embryo quality and lower chances of pregnancy [ 43 , 44 ]. There are also studies suggesting that IL-6 does not affect the clinical pregnancy rate in IVF-ET and therefore does not affect oocyte quality [ 45 , 46 ].…”

“…Elevated IL6 levels have been associated with improved clinical pregnancies by enhancing embryo implantation [60,61]. Conversely, elevated IL6 levels have been linked to diminished embryo quality and decreased likelihood of successful pregnancies [62]. In swine, IL6 receptors have been identified as promoters of granulosa cell survival [63].…”

“…Higher levels of IL-6 correlate with poor embryo quality, and patients are less likely to become pregnant. [17][18][19] It has been concluded that IL-6 inhibits oocyte development. [20] In addition, some studies have suggested that IL-6 does not affect the clinical rate of pregnancy, as well as the quality of oocytes.…”
