“…Formerly, tacrolimus has reduced peritoneal adhesions after a bowel transplantation model in rats (24). Another immunosuppressive drug sirolimus, have been found to reduce intraabdominal adhesions in an intraabdominal prosthetic vascular graft model and ventral prosthetic mesh model (26, 27). …”

“…Th1 CD4 + ąß cells are crucial for developing intraperitoneal adhesions, and shortly after tissue injury and throughout adhesiogenesis, these activated T-cells become predominant in the abdominopelvic cavity 42 , 43 . Therefore, several immunosuppressive agents have been proven to reduce postoperative intraperitoneal adhesions in experimental models, such as Tacrolimus 44 , Sirolimus 13 , 19 , 45 , mycophenolate mofetil, and cyclosporine 46 . However, it has been formerly demonstrated that vascular toxicity mediated by Calcineurin inhibitors, such as cyclosporine and tacrolimus, might induce endothelial damage leading to impaired fibrinolytic capacity 47 .…”

“…IL-6 also has been shown to significantly increase the intraperitoneal adhesions (14,15). Former studies with immunosuppressive agents showed adhesion prevention with tacrolimus in a bowel transplantation model (4), with sirolimus in an intraabdominal prosthetic graft model (16) and parietal synthetic mesh model (17). Sirolimus is a new generation immunosuppressive drug with low and well-defined adverse effect profile.…”
