Effect of Skirts on the Behavior of a Mono-Column Structure in Waves

Abstract: Petrobras, through its Research Center and in cooperation with Universities and Research Institutes, has invested in the development of new concept of platform, aiming to minimize the movements of the structure to work in the field of oil and gas in ultra-deep water. One of these developments is related with a Mono-Column conception provided with a moonpool. In the OMAE2005 Conference, an experimental study of the behavior of this concept was presented, showing the influence of the diameter of the opening of t… Show more

“…In the presence of a disk, the damping induced by the current doubled. Masetti et al [11] carried out experiments to study the influence of different skirts on the response of monocolumn floating production structure and the influence of varying the external diameter along the vertical axis. Sphaier et al [12] carried out a series of tests on a model of a monocolumn platform with a moon pool to determine the optimal entrance area at the bottom of the moon pool for minimizing vertical motion in waves.…”

“…Thiagarajan et al [9] carried out numerical simulations and model testing to identify the influence of a heave plate on the heave response of the spar. Masetti et al [7] carried out experiments to study the influence of different skirts on the response of monocolumn floating production structure and the influence of variation of the external diameter along the vertical axis. Torres et al [11] published works by changing the internal geometry of the moonpool.…”
