“…Psychological effects measured in terms of VAS score were not significant in our study for any aroma, whereas positive psychological effects are reported in the past with Chocolate [3,4], Green tea [5,6], Apple [7], and Chamomile [12,13]. Chamomile which demonstrated no any significant physiological effect in our study, is reported to have stabilized blood pressure [13] and reduced pulse [14].…”

“…Strawberry is reported to have reduced nausea and vomiting [1], and ginger has led to pain relief [2]. Chocolate improved relaxation [3,4] and shaded white tea demonstrated improved task performance and enhanced positive mood [5,6]. With regard to the physiological impacts, reduced EEG theta activity with apple [7], reduced sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity and increased in parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) activity with cedarwood [8], and decreased stress-related hormones with musk [9,10] are reported.…”

“…We presume that this TMD score decrease came from the influence of the odor of the green tea. Our previous study showed that smelling shaded white tea increased the band power of alpha and beta in the frontal and occipital regions and suppressed the decrease of Vigor-Activity in POMS after mental tasks [31]. The mechanism might be that one of the main odor components of green tea stimulated the release of dopamine, which regulates brain functions, mood and attention in rats, and induced changes of event-related potential P-300 and perceived pleasure in human studies [32,33].…”

“…In our previous paper, smelling green tea showed an increase of the subjective rating about relaxed feeling and a less decrease in vigor score after stress loads, and electroencephalographic (EEG) activities changed after smelling green tea, suggesting that smelling green tea may have anti-stress effects. The more, different types of green tea, depending on how they were processed, not only showed their different effects on the mood, but also on EEG activity and task performance [11]. We found that smelling the Shaded white tea induced a more positive emotion, and affected EEG activity and task performance more than the normal green tea did.…”
