Effect of Sodium Lactate Infusion on Urate Clearance in Man.

Abstract: 809 no effect on the surface or caused the appearance of a watery fluid, which could be drained off. Whether this fluid was a condensation of water molecules from the air or represented an actual secretion is not known. The mucous layer of control tissue had a glossy appearance, but was never watery.5 . EBect on Ciliary Resistance to Mechanical Trauma. It was noted that positive ions rendered the cilia peculiarly vulnerable to mechanical trauma. A single, very gentle stroke with a cotton-tipped swab dipped in … Show more

“…These effects have been attributed to the rise in blood lactate, since lactate administration is known to decrease urinary uric acid excretion (27)(28)(29). Thus, it appears reasonable to assume that the rise in serum uric acid concentration and the concomitant decrease in urinary uric acid output, which we observed in patients given ethanol, resulted, at least in part, from the rise in blood lactate.…”

“…In the present and in previous studies investigating the effect of lactate on renal uric acid excretion (28,29), the R, racemic, form has been administered, but in mammalian species, L-lactate is preferentially metabolized (30,31). Since the chemical method used (7) measures both D-and L-lactate, and since the relative proportions of the two isomers in the blood and their respective effects on uric acid excretion are unknown, it is difficult to relate blood lactate values to urinary urate excretion quantitatively.…”

“…However, nutritionally more important is the profound influence of changes in the NAD/NADH ratio and the presence of vitamin K antagonists such as dicoumarol (Zollner & Grobner, 1969). Ketoacids, whether due to fasting or bad control of diabetes, inhibit uric acid excretion as does the ingestion of large amounts of ethanol, producing lactacidosis (Yu et al 1957;Lieber et al 1962).…”
