Effect of Some Organic Fertilizers on Growth, Yield and Quality of Tomato (<i>Solanum lycopersicum</i>)

Abstract: Abstract. In the present study, a field experiment was conducted to study the effect of some organic fertilizers on four varieties of tomato viz., Sadia F1, Isabella F1, Lelord and Sun cherry for its growth, yield and fruits sensory. A total of 64 plots were prepared with the dimension of 3 m 2 x 4 m 2 and each plot was applied with recommended doses of organic fertilizers. The results on the growth parameters of the studied tomato varieties showed that the chicken manure had the significant effect on plant he… Show more

“…The practice of mixing different manure types has been reported elsewhere with similar result. [16][17][18] Although the practice of mixing different organic manure types by smallholder farmers is common in most rural farming areas of South Africa, there has not been any agronomic evaluation of the practice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the application of three organic manures on sunflower performance and selected soil physical and chemical properties under rainfed conditions in the Limpopo Province.…”

“…The increase in the WUE in relationship with the increase in the doses of biofertilizer may be due to the lower transpiration in relation to the photosynthetic rate, or the higher nutrient supply by increasing the doses of biofertilizer (Oliveira et al, 2014), as verified in lettuce plants in which organic fertilization improved water use efficiency (Santos et al, 2010). It was also verified in tomato plants, that organic fertilizers contribute to the adequate growth and development of plants and to the correction of nutritional deficiencies (Dinu et al, 2015;Kalbani et al, 2016).…”

“…On the other hand, the reduction of root-shoot ratio observed in plants cultivated on manure substrates and high doses of biofertilizer may mean that these plants, once the needs of the root growth have been satisfied by the greater absorption of the nutrients provided by the biofertilization, have passed; they direct their activities to the formation of the aerial part, such as leaves and fruits (Oliveira et al, 2014;Cruz et al, 2015;Kalbani et al, 2016).…”
