Effect of Sonic Activation on Push-Out Bond Strength of Fiber Post: An In Vitro Study

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of conventional and sonic activation techniques on push-out bond strength of fiber post cemented with two different monomers containing self-adhesive resin cement (SARC). Four groups (n = 19 each) were made based on the type of SARC (Rely X U200 and Panavia SA) and technique (conventional and sonic activation). After placing the fiber post, each root was sectioned into 2 mm coronal, middle, and apical portions, and a push-out bond strength test was performed using… Show more

“…Hence, the working length is a very significant aspect in evaluating the excellence of endodontic treatment. Ideally, it is believed that the working length seems to be 1–2 mm from the radiographic apex [ 11 , 12 ]. The inter-appointment medicaments have been promoted to deliver an uninterrupted quantity of antimicrobial agents that limits the growth of bacteria and blocks bacterial multiplication [ 13 ].…”

“…Sample size was calculated based on data extracted from previously published paper [ 21 ]. For comparison between control and agitation group the true difference is 1.2 MPa for push-out bond strength and the effect size is f = 1.448.…”

“…In some cases of endodontically treated teeth, intra-canal posts are considered essential in order to enhance the final restoration retention. Compared to cast metal and core systems, fiber posts became more usable due to their better esthetics, closer elastic modulus to that of dentin, and more uniform stress distribution (1)(2)(3).…”

“…Debonding of the fiber posts at the adhesive resin-dentin junction is considered to be their most common failure reason, which is thought out to be a sequel of the thick smear layer and debris covering the root surface formed during post space preparation (1)(2)(3) .…”
