Effect of sprinkler irrigation levels on the performance of blackgram (Vigna mungo) varieties

Abstract: A field experiment was conducted at Tamil Nadu Rice Research Institute, Aduthurai, Tamil Nadu during Summer, 2013 and 2014 to study the response of blackgram varieties to different levels of irrigation through applied sprinkler system. Four levels of irrigation I 1 -50 per cent pan evaporation through sprinkler irrigation, I 2 -75 per cent pan evaporation through sprinkler irrigation, I 3 -100 per cent pan evaporation through sprinkler irrigation and I 4 -Surface irrigation in main plot and three blackgram var… Show more

“…This might be due to that increased moisture availability resulted in increased plant height, more number of pods/plant and 100 seed weight of rice fallow black gram. This is in agreement with the findings of Siddique et al [10] and Senthil Kumar et al [11].…”

“…The life saving micro sprinkler irrigation to a depth of 10 mm would have improved the soil moisture content at the surface layer though it did not influence the moisture content in the sub surface layer to a greater extent. Senthil Kumar et al (2018) also observed increase in soil moisture due to sprinkler irrigation in blackgram. Irrespective of the days of observation and depth, the lowest soil moisture was observed with balckgram sown with the seed drill due to the V shape furrow opened during the sowing, which paved way for rapid depletion of moisture as compared to other treatments.…”

“…They found that, while the conventional flood method supplied the highest water to the plant, it performed the least with respect to yield. Different methods are implemented to automate such control measures as irrigation scheduling (Ahmad et al, 2015;Brijbhooshan et al, 2015;Brar et al, 2016), irrigation level (Kumar et al, 2017;Arun et al, 2018), irrigation regime (Gholamhoseini et al, 2017), irrigation water quality (Murugesan et al, 2018) etc. Arif et al, (2017) presented an Arduino based smart irrigation System.…”
