Effect of stacking sequence on properties of coconut leaf sheath/jute/E-glass reinforced phenol formaldehyde hybrid composites

Abstract: In the present study, the effect of stacking sequence on mechanical, physical, and biodegradability properties of treated coconut leaf sheath/jute/glass fabric reinforced phenol formaldehyde hybrid composites were studied. The hybrid composite laminates were fabricated by using hand lay-up technique. The specimen preparation and testing were conducted as per ASTM standards. Obtained results indicated that the incorporation of coconut leaf sheath with glass fiber of hybrid composites has greater effect on tensi… Show more

“…3) The developed composites A1 has more water absorbing capacity due to the presence of hydroxyl and other polar groups. 4) The abovesaid phenomenon leads to poor interfacial bonding between the fibers and matrix which results in higher biodegradation values which also matches with the results suggested by Bharath et al (2018).…”

“…The water absorption tests of the different stacking sequences of the composites are studied in detail, and the same is shown in Figure 6. 4) The better adhesion between the matrix and fiber resulted in a reduction in water absorption which also matches the results suggested by Bharath et al (2018). Figure 6 shows the thickness swelling % vs. a number of days of the developed composites.…”

“…As a result, a balance of mechanical performance and cost reduction for engineering applications could be achieved [9,10]. The effect of hybridization between a natural fiber and synthetic fiber in a single matrix has been studied [11][12][13][14][15][16][17]. It has been found, that optimization of fiber loadings have shown favorable effect on the improvement of physical and mechanical properties.…”

“…The percentage moisture content is expressed as the ratio of increase in weight to the weight of dry specimen. 13 (A) (B) Result and discussion Figure 4 shows the load-deflection curves for tensile strength of coconut leaf sheath fiber composites. From the graph it can be seen that the load carrying capacity of PF used coconut fiber composite is greater than the UF used coconut fiber composite.…”
