Abstract:There is a lack of a quantitative study on the appropriate value of material removal Lr from the crack-tip front induced by drilling a stop-hole. The effect of Lr variation on the fatigue life and post-initiation fatigue crack growth rate (da/dN) of a cracked specimen was studied for two different stop-hole geometries (circle and ellipse). Three different values of Lr = 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 mm were selected for the parametric study by changing the location of the stop-hole center in relation to the initial fatigue… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
