Effect of Substituted Group of β-Cyclodextrin Derivatives on the Dispersing of Carbon Nanotubes

Abstract: The dispersion effect of five cyclodextrins (CDs) on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was studied. 2-HB-b-CD is the most efficient dispersing agent. The dispersing ability of CDs on the dispersion of CNTs was 2-The movement in the FTIR spectra of the asymmetric and symmetric stretching vibrations of O-H of the composites means hydrogen bonding was an important factor on the dispersing ability. These results indicate that the type of interaction might be a combination of a weak interaction similar to a van der Waals typ… Show more

“…This observed upshift in the G4-CNT-5 hydrogel may stem from strains induced by the adsorption of hydrogel constituents on the surface of the nanotubes, particularly cyclodextrins and G4s. Comparable Gband peaks shift values have been previously reported in pristine SWNTs when compared to SWNT/γ-cyclodextrin composites, 56 SWNT/substituted β-CD, 61,62 or SWNT/ β-CD polymer 63 systems, and were explained by either hydrophobic interactions with the polymer 63 or multiple van der Waals attraction forces between CD and the carbon nanomaterial.…”

“…β-CD with longer C-2 substituted group increases the hydrophilic character of the molecule and hence stronger surfactant action on drug/water contact angle is expected and higher dissolution rates are obtained. This could explain the better solubility results of hydroxy-butylated β-CD than hydroxy propylated form 28 .…”

“…A range of biomaterials consisting of n-decyl-β-Dmaltoside, ϒ-cyclodextrin, n-cyclodextrin, chitosan, pullulan, and phospholipid-dextran have been employed for noncovalent functionalization of CNTs (Braga et al 2014;Lu et al 2014;Ahmad et al 2013). They have assisted the process for the reason that such biomolecules have nearly no light adsorption in UV-Vis wavelength region, in order to that the CNTs polymeric composites can be characterized by photochemical and are mostly biocompatible and appropriate for many medicinal purposes Bai et al 2010;Krause et al 2010).…”
