Abstract:Effects of various surface treatments on hydrogen embrittlement of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy were investigated. Rotary bending fatigue tests showed that electroless Ni-P plating on 6061-T6 reduced the fatigue strength considerably because of hydrogen absorbed into the substrate by plating. These findings suggest the possibility of evaluating hydrogen embrittlement of 6061-T6 by conducting rotary bending fatigue tests after electroless Ni-P plating.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
