Effect of tantalum addition on the mechanical properties of tungsten/tantalum composite thin films

Abstract: Tungsten (W) when used as a plasma-facing material (PFM) in a tokamak will face harsh neutron radiation and high-temperature fluctuations. Due to its ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT), W behaves as a brittle material in lower temperatures and thus helps in propagating cracks easily resulting in dust formation and failure of material.
