Effect of Tapered Interference Fit between Impeller and Shaft in Turbo Machines

Abstract: In Turbo machines, there are many components which are provided with interference to transmit torque and to maintain contact between them. There are transient scenarios where impeller and shaft lose interference and limits the speed of the impeller. In this paper, a case study on centrifugal compressor has been presented to see the effect of taper pairing of shaft with impeller. When the centrifugal compressor starts then a transient condition is dominant wherein the impeller of the centrifugal compressor gain… Show more

“…Kovan [13] conducted stress and separation frequency analyses of interference fit between the shaft and hub. Vishwakarma et al [14] studied the influence of tapered interference fit between the impeller and shaft in a centrifugal compressor. It is evident that interference fit has a significant impact on system characteristics.…”

“…J. F. Moore [9] used edge detection to improve the spatial resolution and to verify the turbine blade airfoil. This paper's contribution is to produce a nondestructive method to assess the life of an old turbo machines blade [10] and thermal load parts [11,12]. This assessment is based on capturing the turbine blade's geometrical features to be implemented in several simulation tools for further analysis by using medical computed Tomography.…”

“…The recovery runs as gasification freeing synthesis gases, which are used to drive cogeneration units for combined heat and power generation. At present, basically all power units are turbocharged to increase overall efficiency [2]. It is an efficient recovery of the energy bonded in the waste, with a high overall efficiency (over 90%).…”
