Effect of telmisartan on hypertensive dementia patients: an observational study

Abstract: Background: This was a prospective observational study done to observe the effects of telmisartan on cognitive function in hypertensive dementia patients. Methods: The study included new diagnosed hypertensive and normotensive dementia patients. Patients comprised of four groups; hypertensive dementia patients taking telmisartan (group 1), hypertensive dementia patients taking donepezil and telmisartan (group 2), normotensive dementia patients taking donepezil (group 3) and normotensive dementia patients taking… Show more

“…Keshri et al performed a prospective observational trial study to examine the effects of telmisartan on cognitive function in patients with hypertension and dementia [ 48 ]. This study found that while telmisartan is better at preventing dementia than a placebo, it is not better than donepezil [ 48 ].…”

This study found that while telmisartan is better at preventing dementia than a placebo, it is not better than donepezil [ 48 ]. However, when used together, telmisartan and donepezil performed better in terms of MMSE scores, with telmisartan functioning as a potentiator [ 48 ].…”

“…Additionally, animal modeling of TMN demonstrated that its PPAR activity could reduce cognitive decline by regulating neurotrophic factors originating from the brain. 3,8,9 Therefore, TMN could become the first-line therapy for ALZ, replacing ChEI drugs.…”

“…Compared with other ARB medications, TMN was anticipated to have promising therapeutic benefits for persons with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular illnesses as a partial agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR). Additionally, animal modeling of TMN demonstrated that its PPAR activity could reduce cognitive decline by regulating neurotrophic factors originating from the brain. ,, Therefore, TMN could become the first-line therapy for ALZ, replacing ChEI drugs.…”
