Effect of temperature on equilibria for physical and reactive extraction of protocatechuic acid

Abstract: Owing to its biological and chemical applications, the separation of protocatechuic acid, a polyphenol compound, is of interest to researchers. Extraction studies with initial acid concentration (0.001-0.01 kmol m À3 ) using aminic extractant tri-n-octyl amine (TOA) (0.2287 kmol m À3 -1.1436 kmol m À3 ) in diluent octanol at diverse temperature ranges from 288 K -313 K was done. Parameters like loading ratio, distribution coefficient, equilibrium complexation constant, diffusion coefficient, number of stages n… Show more

“…If loading factors are less than 0.5, complexation constant values are calculated as in the below Eq. ( 5) [37,38]: (5) where K E is the experimental complexation constant of 1:1 acid-extractant complex formation, and it is found from the slope when Z 1−Z is plotted versus [HGA] aq [39]. Mass Action Law Model explains the nature and type of the formed complex.…”

“…The highest efficiency was obtained by Ph 3 PO in isobutanol in the reactive extraction experiments, and therefore further thermodynamic study was executed with Ph 3 PO in isobutanol. The thermodynamic study was carried out at 298.2 K, 308.2 K and 318.2 K. The thermodynamic parameters were calculated by Van't Hoff equation given below [38,40]:…”

In order to extend experimental knowledge and to improve theoretical approaches, extensive studies on reactive extraction for the separation of different carboxylic acids have been carried out recently 31–40 . The study on reactive extraction of 2‐ketogluconic acid by Georgiana et al 31 has focused on analyzing the pH‐dependent extraction performance and the molar ratios of acid and extractant Amberlite LA‐2 dissolved in three solvents with 1‐octanol as phase modifier.…”
