“…In teleosts, the left gonad of the Argentine silverside, Odontesthes bonariensis [Strüssmann and Ito, 2005], was found to be the first to differentiate, and the size of the right ovary was often smaller than the left one in adult brown trout, Salmo trutta [Ashby, 1957], and rainbow trout [Mrsic, 1923]. Moreover, methyltestosterone treatment in trout can induce both a morphological and a molecular asymmetry of masculinization [Chevassus and Krieg, 1992;Guillevic and Guiguen, 2008]. These observations suggested that trout gonads may have an underlying asymmetrical differentiation program that is normally obscure but could be revealed under imbalanced physiological conditions.…”
