Effect of the Dried Flowers of Campsis grandiflora on Stagnant Blood Syndrome

Abstract: Dried flower of Campsis grandiflora (Bignoniaceae), known as ryoushouka in Japanese, is a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat stagnant blood, contusion, pruritus, and gynecopathy such as menstrual and menopausal disorders. In the present study, we evaluated the stagnant blood flow (BF) improvement effect of the methanol extract (CG) of dried flowers of C. grandiflora using an in vivo assay, in a continuing effort to improve peripheral circulatory disturbance using natural sources. We used the assay syst… Show more

“…The abundance of EFNs on fresh buds of trumpet creeper [ 23 , 24 ], secreting sucrose, fructose and glucose, has been documented in Bignoniaceae [ 51 , 52 ], as well as the secretion of verbascoside and further phenylpropanoid glycosides in the genus Campsis [ 53 55 ]. The peculiarity of trumpet creepers is the high concentration of a single compound, verbascoside, in their fresh floral buds, an unexpected result.…”

“…In fact, only female-infected wasps can overwinter, due to their large fat bodies, while wasps parasitized by males have scanty lipid storage and will die at the end of summer [19]. “…The IR spectra were recorded on a Shimazu IR-435 spectrometer and UV absorption spectra on a Shimazu UV-160A spectrometer. 1 H-NMR (500 MHz) and 13 C-NMR (125 MHz) spectra were T recorded on a JEOL JNM-ECP 500 spectrometer (TMS as the internal reference). MS was performed on a JMS-700 doublefocusing spectrometer with xenon atom of kinetic energy equivalent to 6 kV at ion accelerating voltage.…”

“…By using the aforementioned assay method, we demonstrated that the active compounds of dried flowers of Campsis grandiflora , a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat stagnant blood and gynecopathies, such as menstrual and menopausal disorders, can be successfully employed to mitigate stagnant blood flow.
