Effect of the Gas Volume Fraction on the Pressure Load of the Multiphase Pump Blade

Abstract: The gas volume fraction (GVF) often changes from time to time in a multiphase pump, causing the power capability of the pump to be increasingly affected. In the purpose of revealing the pressure load characteristics of the multiphase pump impeller blade with the gas-liquid two-phase case, firstly, a numerical simulation which uses the SST k-ω turbulence model is verified with an experiment. Then, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is employed to investigate the variation characteristics of static … Show more

“…Zhang et al used numerical simulation to reveal the influence law and mechanism of inlet gas content on hydraulic performance and pressure pulsation of multiphase pumps [6]. Liu et al studied the transient flow and dynamic characteristics of a multiphase pump under the condition of cavitation by using the mixture multiphase flow model and the full cavitation model, explored the influence of unsteady excitation caused by cavitation on the change of radial force, and provided a thought for the study of the instability characteristics of a multiphase pump [7]. Shi et al studied the changing characteristics of static pressure and pressure load of multiphase pump impeller blades under different inlet gas content and flow rate, revealing the pressure load characteristics of multiphase pump impeller blades under gas-liquid twophase condition.…”

“…Zhang et al [20] and Shi et al [21] studied the tip clearance of the multiphase pump and obtained the effect of tip clearance on energy characteristics, flow characteristics, and pressure fluctuations, respectively. Shi et al [22] and Li et al [23] investigated the effect of GVF on the energy conversion characteristics, pressure fluctuations, blade surface load, gas distribution, and external characteristics of a multiphase pump. Others have investigated the performance of the multiphase pump under high GVF conditions.…”

“…In contrast, a two-phase transport platform eliminates part of the pipeline and separation equipment, saving 40% of infrastructure investment [3]. This approach has been widely used in oil and gas development [4,5]. As the core equipment of a two-phase transport platform, the axial-flow multiphase pump ensures smooth and efficient operation and plays a key role in the development and utilization of oil and gas resources.…”
