Effect of the Passive Stabilizer Bar on the Vehicle’s Stability

Abstract: The phenomenon of vehicle rollover usually occurs when the driver suddenly steers at high speed. The centrifugal force will appear and cause the vehicle’s body to tilt. To overcome this situation, the solution of using the stabilizer bar is proposed. The passive stabilizer bar has a simple structure, low cost, and long service life. As a result, it is now a standard on most vehicles. This paper has established a dynamic model to describe a vehicle’s oscillation. As a result of the study, the maximum roll angle… Show more

“…In addition, control of the active suspension [30], active steering [31], etc., have brought high efficiency for ensuring the car's stability when moving. A stabilizer bar also called an anti-roll bar, is another very effective way to prevent a car from rolling [32]. Stabilizer bars are made in many different ways these days.…”

“…41 The typical bar commonly used is called the passive bar. As the name suggests, it can only passively generate force, depending on the change in unsprung mass displacement, according to Nguyen et al 42 However, the response of the mechanical stability bar is not good, so the solution using active stabilizer bars is preferred. There are two main active bars: electronic bars and hydraulic bars.…”

“…Some advanced materials are used as an alternative to steel, such as synthetic composites, according to Masture [37]. The force generated by the passive bar can be calculated according to the displacement of the linking point [38] or the unsprung mass displacement [39]. The impact force of mechanical anti-roll bars is relatively small, so it cannot meet the roll stability requirements of the vehicle.…”

“…To improve the system's quality, Nguyen added input to the fuzzy controller, making it a complex algorithm with three inputs [46]. The third input is the value of the unsprung mass displacement or vertical force at the wheel, which is considered in calculating the force of passive anti-roll bars [39]. The fuzzy algorithm presented in [46] suits many steering cases.…”
