Effect of TiO2 on the Sintering Behavior of Low-Grade Vanadiferous Titanomagnetite Ore

Abstract: Low-grade vanadiferous titanomagnetite ore (LVTM) is as an important mineral resource for sintering ore manufacturing. Furthermore, TiO2 has a significant effect on the sintering process of iron ore fines. The effects of TiO2 on the metallurgical properties, microstructure, and mineral composition of LVTM sinter were investigated by sintering pot tests, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and mineral phase microanalysis. The results were as follows: as the TiO2 content increased from 1… Show more

“…The ore sample to be measured and the supporting internal standard reagents need to be dried in an oven at 105 C for 2 h and cooled to room temperature before they can be taken. The powder must then be carefully ground to a uniform and consistent level; otherwise, errors may be introduced [ 3 ].…”

“…Conventional blast furnace slag mainly contains CaO, SiO 2 , MgO, and Al 2 O 3 . When vanadium–titanium ore is used as a raw material for blast furnace iron-making, the softening and melting zone of the furnace changed [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ]. Most of the TiO 2 enters the blast furnace slag, making it sticky and causing difficulties in separating slag and iron in the furnace hearth.…”

“…Sintering is the process of compacting a powder material to form a solid mass by applying a predetermined amount of heat or pressure without melting it to the liquid state [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. Sintering is irreversible where the material is crushed, and the smaller particles release the surface energy to form bonds between them.…”
