Effect of toothbrushing duration and dentifrice quantity on enamel remineralisation: An in situ randomized clinical trial

Abstract: The effect of two key oral hygiene regimen factors - toothbrushing duration and dentifrice quantity - on fluoride's anticaries effectiveness is unclear. This 2-week home-use in situ remineralisation clinical study showed both these factors can influence fluoride bioactivity, and so can potentially affect fluoride's ability to protect against caries.

“…In addition, although all children declared to brush their teeth twice a day, the reported duration of the brushing considered effective for a good dental hygiene (≥ 2 minutes) was statistically significant higher in diabetic group in good metabolic control compared to diabetic in bad metabolic control and non-diabetic group. This finding might also contribute to explain the caries figure in the studied populations [ 47 ].…”

“…Furthermore, we also examined the 3D architecture of multispecies biofilms formed during exposure to sucrose or glucose+fructose on enamel specimens placed in the mouth using a modified intra-oral caries model 20, 21, 22 according to approved institutional review board (IRB) protocol at Indiana University (IRB #1407637739). Briefly, subjects wore their partial denture with two flattened and polished enamel specimens imbedded in the buccal surface of the posterior denture teeth for 14 days.…”

“…Students may have bad oral health practices due to their busy teaching and learning schedule. [13][14][15] Insufficient time may cause them not to regularly brush their teeth and neglecting other important OH practices. Although antimicrobial mouthwashes can help reduce numerous oral infections, caries and plaque which can lead to gingivitis and gum diseases.…”

[14][15][16] But yet continuity in adopting good practices to attain OH is recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA). 13 Regular and gentle brushing of the tongue can also help in removing various germs and maintain freshens of the breath.…”
