“…58,59 When administered once daily to normotensive dogs of various breeds, latanoprost significantly reduced IOP in the treated eye by approximately 22% to 40%, depending on the study. 8,31,56,58,60 The maximum hypotensive effect was noted on the fifth day of therapy, and the greatest reduction in IOP was noted 6 hours after application. 58,60 In laboratory beagles with POAG, latanoprost also significantly reduced IOP by approximately 50% (19.1-26.6 mm Hg) when administered at both a once-and twice-daily dosing frequency.…”

“…This effect persists for less than 24 hours, at which time a rebound mydriasis often is seen. 56,58,59 Because of this profound miosis, topical prostaglandins are contraindicated when treating glaucoma secondary to anteriorly luxated lenses because it may lead to pupillary block and exacerbate existing ocular hypertension. 49 Despite this, they have been used successfully to medically treat posterior and subluxation of the crystalline lens in canine patients.…”

“…For example, both steroids and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs have the ability to increase IOP in susceptible dogs and may blunt the effectiveness of glaucoma medications, but their use is almost always necessary in uveitic glaucoma. [31][32][33][34][35][36] Control of inflammation is critical and may require systemic as well as topical antiinflammatories. Attention to medication interactions and potential systemic side effects is important when using these medications.…”
