Effect of Variations in Vitreous Phase of Low-Calcium Aluminosilicates on Strength Properties of Geopolymer Systems

Production of high-performance construction materials, meeting the requirements of construction process when development of up-to-date buildings and structures is very relevant and requires the usage of effective polycomponent binding systems, including geopolymers This work studied mechanical performance, as well as strength, water absorption and water resistance of portland cement – Class F fly ash – NaOH hybrid geopolymer binding system. The bench scale testing was conducted on different mixes, including regular portland cement-based and Class F fly ash-NaOH geopolymer binders used as reference compositions. The developed hybrid binders demonstrated, that incorporation of portland cement up to 40% as a modifying agent, reduces the formation of water soluble mineral phases such as sodium carbonates and hydroxycarbonates in low reactive class F fly ash geopolymer binders. It was found, that the presence of portland cement in the system positively affects strength development and noticeably reduces water absorption and improves water resistance of the developed binders, which is related to formation of water resistant and stable calcium hydrosilicate phases (C-S-H)

Introduction.Construction objects of transport infrastructure have different influence and service conditions. An actual technical task is the design of optimal microclimate for human operation in workshops and office buildings. Therefore, such conditions can be achieved by using of construction material with high parameters of heat- and sound-insulation such as a gas concrete. The main task of the research is the improvement of heat- and sound-insulation in the gas concrete.Materials and methods.The evaluation of the gas concrete efficiency is based on the research of such parameters as heat- and sound-insulation. The analysis of the material at macro- and micro-level is performed with SEM-analysis and BET-analysis. In addition, the complex of experimental and calculated data of physical and chemical characteristics for gas concrete is carried out.Results.As a result, the usage of amorphous alum inosilicate raw materials in gas concrete allows variation of parameters to effect on pore structure such as homogeneous pore distribution in bulk, thickness and density of interpore partition, pore shape and pore size. The reduction of aerated concrete density by 22.5 % leads to reducing of heat conductivity by 19.26 %. The formation of cellular structure with mainly closed pores allows reducing of sorption humidity and vapor permeability of material under different environmental humidity.Differently-sized pores in the gas concrete and predominantly small pores with size of 0.3-0.9 mm as well as with size up to 94,6 nm leads to increasing isolation index of airborne sound due to increasing of absorption of acoustic wave in frequency range of 125-4000 Hz. Complexly, it provides high sound-insolating parameters of wall envelopes.Discussion and conclusions.Monitoring of heat- and sound-insolation of the gas concrete due to optimization of pore structure allows formation of energy effective composites able to protect humans from unfavorable environment in the transport enterprises.

the efficiency of traditional raw materials using as well as expanding of potential uses for non-conventional and alternative raw materials with different origin is the tasks exiting interest among material scientists and manufacture stuff. Investigation of the above is oriented on solution of such scientific problem as more deep understanding of structure and features of material. The results obtained also allow solution of some technological, technical and economical tasks. Greatly, it is actual when using of new types of raw materials as well as when synthesis of new composites. Concerning the construction material science field, the classic problem is the looking for ways to study the reactivity of raw components under different conditions, its control and, generally, its increasing to produce higher performance materials. Among the popular and widely-used construction materials are alkali-activated binders and relevant composites. In this study the results of granulometric analysis of suspension based on alkali-activated aluminosilicate with different crystallinity degree are presented. It was found, when treatment of aluminosilicate grain by alkali activator leads to the grain solubilizing (but differently depending on crystallinity degree of aluminosilicate) and formation of alkali-aluminosilicate gel that reacts with unreacted part of the grain according to structure affinity principle. It was also determined the crystallinity degree of aluminosilicate component is inversely proportional to its solubility in highly-alkali environment. The model of structure formation for geopolymer system under alkali effect is offered.
