Effect of varied plyometric training in land and aquatic medium on anaerobic power of athletes

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to find out the effect of varied plyometric training (land plyometric training, aqua plyometric training and weighted vest aqua-plyometric training) on anaerobic power of school athletes. A total of forty eight (n= 48) district level school athletes were randomly selected. All the subjects were divided into four equal groups: i) land plyometric training group (n=12), ii) aqua plyometric training group (n=12), iii) aqua-plyometric training with weighted vest group (n=12) and iv)… Show more

“…These can be particularly beneficial for elite athletes recovering from some surgery for sports injuries by combining different training approaches [42]. These findings provide valuable information for coaches and athletes seeking to improve their performance in all types of sports [45]. These findings provide valuable information on training options and manage to have important implications for those seeking to improve their physical and athletic performance [48] and it is important t o highlight plyometric training [53].…”

“…It should be noted that several investigations show improvements in physical performance due to plyometric training but a more exhaustive analysis of its impact on technical skills in sports is needed [41], its impact on the psychological well-being of athletes has yet to be explored [42] and there is little information on the ideal rest time in order to improve physical condition [43]. Other studied aspects are the influence of age and gender on the motor adaptation of children and young people to this type of training [44], the effects on the aerobic capacity of the athlete [45] and how the surface influences the outcome of the training program [46].…”

“…Basically, plyometrics performed in water could change the elastic ability of the muscles much better, because the lower extremity muscles could contract with more force due to water resistance and body weight. According to Biswas & Ghosh (2022b)aqua plyometric training and weighted vest aqua-plyometric training, when carrying out plyometric aquatic training, the muscle workload increased during the concentric phase so that it could increase muscle strength. This finding was in line with previous studies which reported that plyometric training can significantly increase leg muscle strength in volleyball athletes (Gjinovci et al, 2017;Dell'Antonio et.…”

“…According to Arazi, Mohammadi & Asadi, (2014), plyometrics is an exercise that consists of jumping, bounding or hopping. In addition, this training can be conducted on land such as sand, grassy ground or water (Chomani et al, 2021;Biswas & Ghosh, 2022;Biswas & Ghosh, 2022b). Virtual-based plyometric aquatic training was carried out virtually in water.…”

“…While constructing the training protocol the researcher went through an exhaustive review on the studies that used weighted vest hypergravity training and sometimes weighted sled training (Biswas & Ghosh, 2022a, 2022bGhosh & Biswas, 2020; which were used as reference, that guided the researchers to frame the training protocol. From those studies few were shorted out (J.…”
