Effect of various bleaching treatments on shear bond strength of different universal adhesives and application modes

Abstract: ObjectivesThe aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the bond strength of 2 universal adhesives used in different application modes to bleached enamel.Materials and MethodsExtracted 160 sound human incisors were used for the study. Teeth were divided into 4 treatment groups: No treatment, 35% hydrogen peroxide, 16% carbamid peroxide, 7.5% carbamid peroxide. After bleaching treatments, groups were divided into subgroups according to the adhesive systems used and application modes (n = 10): 1) Single Bond Un… Show more

“…1 Evidence shows that adhesions of restorations decrease to freshly bleached enamel and dentin. [2][3][4] Several studies have assessed the impact of different bleaching agents on mechanical and morphological properties of the bonding interface. [5][6][7][8][9][10] The results of most studies have indicated decreased bond strength of restorative materials to bleached dentin.…”

“…In case of universal adhesive systems, there was no significant difference in SBS between convention etch-rinse and self-etch priming in dry condition but SBS decreased notably in etch-&-rinse technique after samples had been immersed in water or thermocycled 13 . Yet, Mclean et al 14 found that acid etching the enamel significantly improved bond strengths of the universal adhesives compared to self-etch-ing, but storage time did not significantly affect bond strengths. Katona et al 15 tested different strengths of bonding adhesives: in shear, traditional etch-&-rinse and priming produced a stronger bond than the single-step self-etch system.…”
