Effect of vehicle speed on shock and vibration levels in truck transport

Abstract: SUMMARYAn update on the nature of shock and vibration in truck transport was obtained by measuring and analysing the shock and vibration levels separately that occur during truck transportation in Japan. The effect of truck speed on the shock and vibration levels was mainly analysed. A signifi cant difference was observed between the acceleration of vibration, and the acceleration including shock and vibration as a result of truck speed. The results indicated that the effect of truck speed on root mean square … Show more

“…Magnification of vehicle vibration among other things depends on structural dynamics of the vehicle. However, the transmitted vibration acceleration to the vehicle bed where products and packages are loaded depends on the surface characteristics of the road surface, vehicle dynamics including the pressure and condition of the tyres, structural stiffness, the vehicle speed and the vehicle load …”

“…Singh et al measured the vibration inside trailers used for less‐than‐truckload shipments and deliveries in the USA. In addition to this, a number of studies have investigated the vibration levels during truck transport in several other countries including Thailand, Spain, India, Brazil and Japan . In addition to the studies mentioned previously, recent studies have expanded the measured data in small‐sized and medium‐sized trucks with small pick‐up trucks and automobiles used in countries like Thailand …”

“…It should also be noted that, the highest acceleration occurs during the speed of 11-16 km/hr. These results have been compared with [13] and show some agreement. The transfer function was used to detect the level of under-inflation of the tyre and also predict possible future suspension faults.…”

“…Active suspension control system based on a full Vehicle model was presented, and the performance of suspension system was included. The effect of truck speed on the shock and vibration levels was discussed by Lu et al [13]. They indicated that the effect of truck speed on root mean square acceleration of vibration was strong at a lower speed, but slight at a higher speed.…”

“…These studies usually focus on the drivers' and passengers' comfort during their travel. In the case of goods vehicles, conditions of load carrying are also sometimes taken into account [8,9]. For a better understanding of the problem, the behavior of different types of vehicle suspensions was tested under real road conditions.…”
