“…Carbonyl peaks were read at 1715 -1735 cm -1 . Reference peaks, based on the literature, were 1471 cm -1 for PE (LDPE, HDPE, PE), 1458 cm -1 for PP, 1452 cm -1 for PS and EPS (Rodrigues et al 2018), 1504 cm -1 for PET (Pires et al 2015), 1328 cm -1 for PVC (Balakit et al 2015), 1030 cm -1 for CA (Sakai et al 1996), and 1464 cm -1 for nylon (Cai et al 2017) (Table S-1 and S-2, S.I.). The spectra of some organic matter samples were also recorded for future reference (Figure S-1, S.I.).…”

“…Evidently, the addition of PET has affected the material properties, mainly improving the mechanical integrity and thermal resistivity, thereby making PET a high-quality polyester to recycle consecutively. Additionally, repeated recycling of PET is reported to have produced comparable results to virgin PET in terms of material characteristics, supporting its recycling as a good alternative for plastic waste disposal 19 .…”

“…The infrared spectra of pure PET, PET-nTiO 2 -R, PET-nTiO 2 -A, and PET-nSiC are shown in Figure 4 . The intensity of the spectra was normalized with a reference peak, the IR band at 1408 cm −1 , since it is assigned to the benzene ring of PET, which is not expected to be affected by aging [ 40 , 41 , 42 ] This normalization method allows a proper comparison of the absorption intensity of characteristic bands showing some structural changes during accelerated aging in the 750–1800 cm −1 range. An increase in the intensity of characteristic peaks of PET was noted, that is, in the aromatic ester C=O stretch (1717 cm −1 ), aromatic ester C-C-O stretch (1255 cm −1 ), and aromatic ester O-C-C stretch (1100 cm −1 ) [ 43 ].…”
