Nanotechnology is one of the major advanced technologies applied in different fields, including agriculture, livestock, medicine, and food sectors. Nanomaterials can help maintain the sustainability of the livestock sector through improving quantitative and qualitative production of safe, healthy, and functional animal products. Given the diverse nanotechnology applications in the animal nutrition field, the use of nanomaterials opens the horizon of opportunities for enhancing feed utilization and efficiency in animal production. Nanotechnology facilitates the development of nano vehicles for nutrients (including trace minerals), allowing efficient delivery to improve digestion and absorption for better nutrient metabolism and physiology. Nanominerals are interesting alternatives for inorganic and organic minerals for animals that can substantially enhance the bioavailability and reduce pollution. Nanominerals promote antioxidant activity, and improve growth performance, reproductive performance, immune response, intestinal health, and the nutritional value of animal products. Nanominerals are also helpful for improving assisted reproductive technologies (ART) outcomes by enriching media for cryopreservation of spermatozoa, oocytes, and embryos with antioxidant nanominerals. Despite the promising positive effects of nanominerals on animal performance and health, there are various challenges related to nanominerals, including their metabolism and fate in the animal’s body. Thus, the economic, legal, and ethical implications of nanomaterials must also be considered by the authority. This review highlights the benefits of including nanominerals (particularly nano-selenium and nano-zinc) in animal diets and/or cryopreservation media, focusing on modes of action, physiological effects, and the potential toxicity of their impact on human health.

Mastitis is the most common disease of dairy cattle across the globe including India and cause huge economic losses to dairy farmers. Mastitis is also the most common reason for antibiotic usage in dairy animals, which is an important reason for antimicrobial resistance development in human and veterinary important pathogen. Optimization of nutrition and improvement of immunity of lactating cows are important strategies to reduce the susceptibility to mastitis and thereby reduction of antibiotic use. Copper, Zinc and Manganese are important trace minerals for maintaining udder health and immunity but, their contents and bioavailability is affected by several factors. Citrate, the precursor for milk synthesis is an important determinant of udder health but, the role of citrate in udder health is not clear as milk citrate level is affected by various factors. This review discusses about the role of trisodium citrate and various forms of trace minerals in mastitis management in dairy animals.

Somatic cell count (SCC) in milk is of interest to dairy goat breeders because of its influence not only on milk production but also on longevity and profitability. This study's aim was therefore to consider the production traits and udder morphometry relationships between them and SCC. For this purpose, production traits and twelve udder traits were measured from 152 clinically healthy dairy Zaraibi goats at the first four parities of lactations. The examined goats were classified into three categories according to SCC in milk; (≤470x10 3 cells/ml), (from 471 to ≤500x10 3 cells/ml) and (>500x10 3 cells/ml). Results showed that the goats with SCC ≤470x10 3 cells/ml had significantly the highest values of all studied production parameters. Likewise, the udder and teats measurements showed to be different depending on SCC in milk. However, the studied parameters were with highly significant negative correlations with SCC. The teat position and udder attachment scores were high in goats at SCC ≤470x10 3 cells/ml, and such scores negatively decreased when SCC values increased. However, the maximum r 2 value (62.8%) obtained from regression equation for predicting SCC was by using average daily milk yield, days in milk, udder depth and width traits. In conclusion, including udder depth and width with teats separation and diameter traits in future breeding programs of Zaraibi goats would be useful to ensure that the selection for increased productivity is not accompanied by unwanted deterioration. In addition, these relations could be used as an indirect diagnosis of SCC in Zaraibi goats milk.
