Effective Control of Chemical Potentials by Rabi Coupling with RF-Fields in Ultracold Mixtures

Abstract: Abstract:We show that a linear term coupling the atoms of an ultracold binary mixture provides a simple method to induce an effective and tunable population imbalance between them. This term is easily realized by Rabi coupling between different hyperfine levels of the same atomic species. The resulting effective imbalance holds for one-particle states dressed by the Rabi coupling and obtained by diagonalizing the mixing matrix of the Rabi term. This way of controlling the chemical potentials applies to both bo… Show more

“…However, interesting proposals to control the chemical potential in such systems have recently been reported. These include splitting of two-dimensional ultracold atom systems into a physical sample of a homogeneous density and a dilute reservoir using advances in quantum gas microscopy [25], realization of two-terminal configurations based on holographic techniques for the study of Landauer transport [26], and the effective control of chemical potentials using Rabi coupling between different hyperfine levels of the atomic species [27].…”

“…It is important to stress that if one considers a new spin basis of symmetric and anti-symmetric superpositions of the bare spin states, then the Rabi term behaves as an effective Zeeman field that breaks the balance of the two new spin components (see, for instance, Ref. [32]). This spin-imbalanced attractive fermionic system has been previously investigated [33,34].…”
