“…Existing literature [3][4][5][6][7][8] focuses largely on descriptions of techniques, simulation model fidelity, and validation of assessment techniques but not necessarily on the study of instructional techniques or educational gains achieved. Limited experience with laboratory-based vascular anastomosis instruction has demonstrated immediate improvements in final product quality for junior resi-dents 9 and has correlated certain measures of laboratory performance with live operating room performance. 10 Laboratory-based training of skin-flap creation has been shown to improve scores on a written examination, but effect on technical skill was not measured.…”

“…However, some of these models may be adopted for a more general usage by changing the size of the particular model. Tubes of different artificial material like silicone, Gore-Tex, latex and PTFE have been used for vascular anastomosis training [3,5,7,11,13]. However, there may be some expense with vascular tube grafts if unsatisfactory amounts are found as leftovers from the operating room.…”

“…We use individualised verbal feedback during anastomotic suturing and after the anastomosis is performed by discussing every single stitch with the trainee to objectify the grade of anastomosis leakage. However, several other methods to assess the operative performance have been described, such as grading possible anastomotic leakage or the motor handling of the surgical instruments quantitatively [3,5,19]. These methods can be used as required.…”

“…O ensino de anastomoses vasculares é um tema já validado em programas de residência em cirurgia vascular, pois esta técnica é uma das primordiais para o dia-a-dia da especialidade (8)(9) . Entretanto, a anastomose arteriovenosa latero-lateral é pouco ensinada em graduação, portanto, avaliar a curva de aprendizado desta técnica em graduandos em medicina, configura uma inovação do uso do modelo de bancada com línguas bovinas.…”
