Effective Location of Shear Walls in High-Rise RCC Buildings Subjected to Lateral Loads

Abstract: Lateral loads such as earthquake and wind loads play a governing role in the design of high-rise buildings. Consequently, providing adequate lateral rigidity against such loads in high-rise buildings is a major concern for structural engineers. A shear wall is one of the vertical elements which are used in buildings to fulfil lateral rigidity requirements. But its location and arrangement should be proper to effectively resist lateral loads, so this study aims to find out the response of high-rise buildings wi… Show more

“…Rigid walls are a type of vertical component commonly employed in building structures to meet the required horizontal stiffness requirements. The objective of the investigation [3] was to investigate the behavior of HRBs with rigid load-bearing walls in terms of their location and arrangement to provide effective resistance to lateral loads. Specifically, the study focused on understanding the response of these buildings to horizontal weight.…”

“…However, to effectively resist horizontal loads, the location and layout must be suitable. This study analyzed various models of high-rise rectangular buildings with and without shear walls using earthquake and wind loads in ETABS software, which is based on finite element analysis (Kashyap and Nallasivam, 2022;Kontoni and Farghaly, 2023).SMPSSs from wind tunnel experiments and random vibration theory were utilized to analyze the effect of high modes on the wind-induced response in three typical super high-rise designs. These findings follow.…”
