Effective properties of acoustic metamaterial chains with low-frequency bandgaps controlled by the geometry of lightweight mass-link attachments

Abstract: The effective mass of an acoustical metamaterial chain, which consists of a modified monatomic chain with a lightweight attached mass-link system, is derived and used to analyse its low-frequency vibration-isolation properties. The effective mass is expressed in terms of the resonant and antiresonant frequencies of a basic element of the chain, and it is shown that the geometry of the attached system can be used to lower the resonant and anti-resonant frequencies, in turn lowering the bandgap of the chain, and… Show more

“…This result was similar to a study conducted in west India and Bangladesh that study subjects with a higher level of educational status were more likely to have higher knowledge about the second vaccine dose against COVID-19. 17 , 21 Accordingly, the odds of knowledge were 2 (AOR=2.01, 95% CI=1.76–3.01) times higher among professionals aged 30–39 as compared to professionals who are 20–29. Similarly, a studies conducted in west India and Bangladesh were consistent with the results of this study.…”

“… 15 Similarly, a study shows that the majority (81.5%) of the respondents agreed that it is important to take a second vaccine dose to protect people from COVID-19, which was greater than the result of this study. 21 Possible explanations for this variation might be due to the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic, source of information, and vaccination policy. Similarly, sources of information also matters because more than half of Ethiopians are living in rural areas.…”

“…In particular, when the excitation frequency v approaches the lower cut-off frequency of the bandgap v 0 from inside the bandgap, the positive parameter (l) approaches infinity and the forced vibration mode u 0 (x) is highly localized around the driven end x = L but vanishingly small in the entire rod, except for a small neighborhood around the end x = L, a typical phenomenon of vibration isolation [28][29][30].…”

“…Some of important practical applications are e.g. structural health monitoring (SHM) [8], vibration isolation [9], vibration detection [10] and energy harvesting of ambient energy [11]. Decreasing the natural frequency of structures is, as it is well known, a common way in vibration isolation problems.…”
