Effectiveness of 23-Valent Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine against Invasive Pneumococcal Disease in Adults, Japan, 2013–2017

Abstract: S treptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of illness and death among adults (1). Pneumonia is the most common form of pneumococcal disease in adults, whereas invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), including meningitis and bacteremia, has severe clinical manifestations with a high case-fatality ratio (2).
