Effectiveness of On-Court Resistive Warm-Ups on Change of Direction Speed and Smash Velocity during a Simulated Badminton Match Play in Well-Trained Players

Abstract: In badminton, power production can be enhanced through the fundamental practice of a dynamic warm-up with resistance conditioning activity to induce a post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) effect. The use of heavy resistance exercise in the form of heavy weights to induce PAPE during competition is not logistically practical in the badminton arena. Thus, there is a need to investigate the use of easily available alternative preconditioning stimuli to induce a similar potentiating effect in badminton-s… Show more

“…One of the effective ways to increase an upward and rightward force-velocity relationship is the use of a loaded conditioning activity (CA) before a power exercise to evoke acute post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) ( Blazevich and Babault, 2019 ; Blecharz et al, 2022 ; Cormier et al, 2022 ; Trybulski et al, 2022 ; Wolska et al, 2023 ) or increased competition performance ( Bogdanis et al, 2014 ; Chua et al, 2021 ). Some general mechanisms such as changes in muscle temperature, cellular water content, muscle activation, alterations in the motor pattern, and post-activation potentiation effect have been identified as PAPE causes ( Blazevich and Babault, 2019 ; Xenofondos et al, 2023 ).…”

“…In addition, training with a combination of speed, agility, quickness and plyometrics hurdle box jump exercises for 3 alternative days for 8 weeks with three sets per exercise and per session 60%-80% with progressive increases showed a significant increase in physiological variables such as vital capacity to withstand breath compared to the control group (Kanagasabai, Manikandan & Lakshmanan, 2018). Furthermore, research on high leg muscle endurance with low leg muscle endurance for increasing VO 2 max capacity and the result is that there is a difference and the better one is the group that has high leg muscle endurance (Chua et al, 2021). Based on the literature review that has been explained that ideally agility and endurance training that is in accordance with the characteristics of badminton is to use the plyometrics method, therefore researchers will develop a plyometrics program using ladder drills and using hurdle drills, where both of these tools are needed to practice agility and accumulation of skills.…”
