Effectiveness on oral pain of 808-nm diode laser used prior to composite restoration for symptomatic non-carious cervical lesions unresponsive to desensitizing agents

Abstract: This study compares sensitivity reduction after dental restoration with and without prior diode laser (DL) irradiation for cervical dentine hypersensitivity (CDH) from non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) unresponsive to desensitizing agents. Eighty-eight teeth of 28 subjects (21 females; age 23-64 years), with CDH from NCCL were included in this study. NCCLs of each oral quadrant were randomized in two groups (study group (SG)) to estimate the sensitivity reduction after dental restoration (SG-1) compared wit… Show more

“…In recent years, laser therapy in the nearinfrared region (NIR) has attracted attention. These are used for periodontal therapy, 1,2 sensory hypersensitivity treatment, 3,4 and treatment of temporomandibular disorders. 5 On another study using a rat fracture model, there were reports that Nd: YAG laser and diode laser irradiation promoted bone healing 6,7 and that diode laser irradiation promoted bone grafting in rats and in vitro experiments.…”

“…Femiano et al 25 realizaram um estudo para comparar a mudança da hipersensibilidade dentinária proveniente de lesões cervicais não cariosas (LCNCs) que não responderam ao tratamento com agentes dessensibilizantes e foram tratadas com restauração de resina composta associada ou não ao uso anterior do laser diodo de baixa potência. Foram incluídos neste estudo 88 dentes com hipersensibilidade proveniente de LCNCs.…”

“…Although this short term study provided satisfactory results, the VAS scores post therapy could have been lower, especially with the DL group. However, the literature indicates that longer duration studies ( 34 , 35 ) have delivered such scores and one report ( 36 ) may not have reflected low VAS scores, but delivered clinically accepTable results.…”
